Understanding ST adapters

Fiber optic adapters are used for linking two connectors and are essential for fiber optic assemblies. There are many types of adapters such as FC, LC, SC, ST, MTRJ, MU, MPO and hybrid adapters. ST adapters are inline and are connected to fiber optic connectors at both ends to ensure the correct alignment of the ferrules of the connectors.

ST adapters have a compact design, high precision alignment, low insertion and return loss and back reflection. They are usually available in metal or plastic housings with phosphor bronze or zirconia split sleeves. ST fiber optic adapters are used in applications such as premise installations, medical and sensor applications, telecom networks, test equipment, CATV, local area networks (LANs), datacomm networks and instrumentation.
